Israel Palestine:
an Extended Conversation

Israel and Palestine: An Extended Conversation - Saturday, November 23 and Sunday, November 24 (in-person, location at the church to be determined).

Please join us for this engaging and important extended conversation about the continuing and often agonizing complexities of the relationships between the countries and communities in the Middle East. Our guest facilitator for these conversations will be Jared Goldfarb, a scholar and peace activist who has served as the tour guide for many Christ Church Holy Land pilgrimages. Jared, who lives in Israel while facilitating regular dialogues between Palestinians and Israelis, is in the United States for the fall and is teaching in a variety of sessions with faith communities across the US.

His sessions at Christ Church will include:

  • "Drawing Lines in the Sand" - Biblical geography as a foundation for understanding the modern national narratives of Israel and Palestine (Saturday, November 23, 10:00 AM)

  • "Breaking Up is Hard to Do" - The birth of modern Arab and Jewish nationalism, from the Ottoman Empire through the British Mandate to the 21st century (Saturday, November 23—12:30 PM)

  • "War & Peace: An Honest Conversation About Israel/Palestine" - Navigating nuance and narrative to understand the current conflict, and finding hope within the despair (Sunday, November 24—1:00 PM)

Each session will be self-contained, so it is not required to attend all three sessions. We hope that you will, however, as each session connects to the others. Lunch will be served on Saturday between sessions 1 and 2. Sunday’s session will occur immediately following Coffee Hour after the 11:00 service.
