“Beloved Community”
A Christ Church Circle for the Ongoing Work of Dismantling Racism
A Virtual Gathering: Tuesday, May 21, 7:00 PM.
This continuing circle in the life of Christ Church meets mostly virtually to create a safe space for conversation, discernment, reflection, and prayer related to the perpetually-urgent work of dismantling racism in all of its forms. Facilitated by Katherine Ellington (a member of Christ Church), Tyler Heston and Eric Park (our church’s clergy), and Brandon Batson (our church’s Director of Communication and Program), “Beloved Community” is a welcoming environment in which participants are invited to connect with one another over important subject matter, thereby deepening both their compassion and their commitment. This week, we will engage in dialogue around two books “White Too Long: The Legacy of White Supremacy in American Christianity” by Robert P. Jones (which we have partially discussed already) and “Pre-Post-Racial America: Spiritual Stories from the Front Lines” by Sandhya Rani Jha. We encourage interested participants to join us for “Beloved Community” this Tuesday, whether you have read the books or not.
NOTE: The concept of “beloved community,” originated by philosopher Josiah Royce and contextualized by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., refers to a way of being in which everyone is valued, cared for, and protected from mistreatment. We are committed to making certain that this new virtual circle reflects the “Beloved Community” that the Gospel of Jesus envisions.
